About our school

Established in May 1856 and one of the oldest schools in Sydney, Paddington Public School celebrated its 160th birthday in May of 2016. It is home to the famous Paddington Markets held every Saturday, in partnership with the Paddington Uniting Church.

Situated on busy Oxford Street the school is only a walk from Centennial Park, a facility well used by the school for sport and environmental activities.

We pride ourselves on being recognised for opportunity and excellence in public education. We are a school in which all members including students, staff and parents are valued and respected.

We believe that all students can be successful learners. School programs both challenge and support all learners. High expectations of quality work and responsible behaviour are made clear and student achievements at all levels are acknowledged and celebrated regularly throughout the year.

The teachers and staff of Paddington Public School are highly professional and dedicated. They have a wealth of knowledge and expertise from a range of teaching and professional backgrounds and experiences. This diversity contributes to the development and implementation of excellent teaching and learning programs as well as efficient and competent administration systems.

Paddington Public provides a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities and programs to enrich student learning, enhance teacher performance and encourage parental involvement and participation.  Our sports program focuses on competitive and non-competitive sports to ensure that all student needs are catered for. Fit Futures, a Physical Education/sporting based company, provides innovative and engaging P.E. lessons for students.

Every week, students also participate in a Maker Space  lesson (STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths), which focuses on designing and making through project based learning. Students learn how to code using iPads and design and make their own creations using 3D software. We have our own 3D printer so that the students can print their creations too.

Many before and after school activities are held at Paddington Public School. These activities include:

  • chess club
  • Class Artz
  • Martial Arts
  • Drama Scene.

A very well organised and resourced ‘Out of Schools’ program operates on the site before and after school.

A valued feature of our school is our inclusive enrolment policy. We support the learning and growth of a diverse group of students, including 38 per cent of students representing 30 different nationalities.

Here at Paddington Public School we cater for the needs of our students through not only academic learning but social and emotional learning too. Students are taught to be respectful, organised, persistent, resilient and confident in order for them to be successful and happy learners. We believe in students achieving their personal best in all they do and offering a wide range of opportunities for them to do so.
